This piece is significant and now meant to be seen, to be displayed, admired and appreciate the statement it presents of American construction history. And because as you can clearly see, this ninety-six year old engineering tool is a prominent and imposing object to display. It is nowhere like a lot of crap art/objects that people display in offices and homes, pretending for such to be meaningful things to show off. It is difficult to overstate the importance of the transit to the development of the United States. All of the large engineering projects were laid out and leveled and the lands the creations were built on were surveyed with these instruments. Bridges, tunnels, skyscrapers, railroads, runways and even the building the Space Shuttle was built in was laid out with the use of a transit. Seldom in history has a single device had such enormous impact on a nation. This nearly antique (term antique meaning over 100-years old) surveyor’s level silently conveys to one’s mind’s eye of endless engineering accomplishments, legions of people working, and a robust importance of America’s past century of progress. To think about it, there are countless situations to imagine . . . look it over and give it some dwell. Interior decorators take notice and consider.
